opentine v0.18.2: clearer visuals, unchanged trust

0xcircuitbreaker··2 min read

v0.18.2 is a documentation-focused release. It changes how the README explains opentine, not the runtime interface or artifact format.

Crisp visuals, smaller assets

The hero terminal and run tree previously used Pillow-generated GIFs. Those visuals and the Mermaid harness chart are now hand-authored, CSS-animated SVGs.

The three SVGs total about 54 KB, compared with roughly 840 KB for the former GIFs. They remain sharp when zoomed and respect prefers-reduced-motion.

The hero replays real tine run and tine replay --verify output. The harness diagram represents the 25 shipped harnesses. The source script, scripts/render_readme_svgs.py, regenerates the assets; --check detects stale committed versions.

See the release README for the visuals in context.

Same operational workflow

This patch retains v0.18’s certificate-transparency checks, Sigstore trusted-root files, and explicit TUF root updates. It also includes v0.18.1’s IPv4-first fetching fix. It does not introduce Agent Trace export or Entire checkpoint import: those are newer source changes, not part of this published release.

python -m pip install --upgrade "opentine==0.18.2"

No artifact or repository-format migration is required. Python support remains 3.11–3.14. Read the v0.18 upgrade guide, trust-root documentation, and release status.

The release is available on GitHub and PyPI, with exact changes in the tagged changelog.
